Pointework Course for Adults
Date: Every Wednesday
Time: 7.00-8.30pm
Venue: St Catherine's Sports Centre, Marrowbone Lane, Dublin 8
Contact Sharon to book a place
Level: Beginners
This class caters for absolute beginners, as well as more experienced adult dancers who wish to either start dancing on pointe, or who wish to improve their pointework skills.
The first half hour of each class consists of pre-pointe foot and ankle strengthening, as well as conditioning barrework specific to starting and improving pointework. The second half hour consists of learning classical ballet repertoire variations designed to show off strong feet and ankles, that in turn also strengthen dancers’ feet and build more advanced pointe skills (that can be danced in either flat or pointe shoes).
Students will learn variations from Sleeping Beauty, Giselle and Le Corsaire over the course.
Pointe shoes are optional.
The workshops are led by Sharon Vandermerwe. Sharon performed as a ballerina for companies in Johannesburg, South Africa from 1990-1999, and was the founder and artistic director of Auckland Ballet in New Zealand before settling in Ireland. She is currently the artistic director of Ballet Áthas Dublin.
